In this video, developed in association with the European Breast Cancer Conference, Breast Cancer TV and Quadia Online Video and sponsored by an educational grant from Novartis Oncology:
Giuseppe Viale, MD, FRCPath, Department of Pathology, European Institute of Oncology, Via Ripamonti 435-20141 Milan, Italy discusses the Manifesto on Optimal Pathology which sets out optimal technical and organisational requirements for a breast cancer pathology service in the light of concerns about variability and lack of patient-centred focus, was prepared by a European Breast Cancer (EBC) Council working group and launched at the European Breast Cancer Conference in Glasgow on 20 March 2014. In this interview, Viale explains that the “manifesto” is not a guideline about how pathology services should be performed. It rather is a call for all in the cancer community, including pathologists, oncologists, patient advocates, health administrators and policymakers, to check that high quality services designed to serve the needs of patients, are available in a timely way.
